I would like to start off by first thanking you for showing interest in supporting Sarah. As one of the most humble and selfless people I know, she was originally unsure about me starting this GoFundMe for her. If you know her like I do, she does not like to ask for help. But as one of her best friends, I decided to start this anyway because I want Sarah to know, above all else, how much love and support she has surrounding her. She is not fighting alone. She will never fight this alone.
Sarah Body was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma on May 21, 2019. After further testing, it was determined that she was HER2 positive. This particular type of breast cancer is typical for women over the age of 50 so doctors were very surprised to see a 32-year-old with this type. While it is curable, it requires a lengthy treatment.
The current plan for Sarah is 18 weeks of 2 chemotherapy medications along with 2 immunotherapy medications. She, as of September 2019, has two treatments left. Once chemotherapy is completed, she will have a double mastectomy and begin radiation since cancer has spread to her lymph nodes. Immunotherapy medications will continue for another year.
Sarah is the mother of a beautiful little girl named Brynn and she is currently a fourth-grade teacher at Gullett Elementary School in Bradenton, Florida. You may be shocked…still teaching with cancer? Still setting up play dates, changing diapers, and reading bedtime stories to Brynn? Of course, she is. She’s Sarah. She works harder than anyone I know. Even when she’s sick from the medications and exhausted, she is there for her daughter and students because she wants to be. She is the kind of person that gives 110% even when fighting cancer.
Cancer is ugly and terrifying. Over the last five months, I’ve watched Sarah breakdown. I watched her lose her hair. I’ve watched her get angry and frustrated. I know there is more she doesn’t tell me. And yet, she has made the best of a bad deal. She is resilient. She hasn’t given up. She continues to fight every single day. And it is time we show this amazing mother, wife, sister, daughter, teacher, and friend that she is not alone in this battle.
