Tahoe Women Raising Money for Local Abortion Fund

Tahoe for Abortion Access is a small collective of young women, living in the South Lake Tahoe area, looking to spin positive impact from our emotional despair in the wake of the Supreme Court's recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. We are irate, we are heartbroken, we are frightened, and we are deeply offended by this ruling, which significantly restricts access to safe abortions all across the country. We recognize that this moment in history will go down as one of the shameful ones. Indeed, we already feel the impact of such grand overreach and audacious violation somewhere deep in our souls as we agonize about what lies ahead. While we may feel desperate in this moment, we refuse to be defeated. With tear stains freshly dried on the apples of our cheeks and a collective fire gaining in our bellies, we seek to make something beautiful of this pain. It is our belief that what happens next matters deeply. 

That is why we are coming together in an effort to raise funds for the Wild West Access Fund of Nevada. WWAF is a "volunteer run 501(c)3 organization based out of Nevada that seeks to eliminate financial costs and other barriers to abortion care." The WWAF is based in Reno, Nevada, and aims to provide monetary assistance in order to "cover as much of each caller's procedure as possible" while redistributing 100% of all donation funds to their callers. While abortion remains legal in Nevada, the WWAF anticipates an influx in requests from callers who will be traveling from outside of the state in order to secure access to legal abortion. It is our goal to help energize this vibrant South Tahoe community to pool our resources in support of the Wild West Access Fund's worthy mission in their time of need.

If you find yourself shaken by the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and the end of federally mandated access to safe and legal abortions, we invite you to join us and let your voice be heard. We will meet at Lakeview Commons on Wednesday, July 27th at 4 PM in peaceful protest of the recent SCOTUS decision. We invite pro-choice folks from all backgrounds, and of all identities, to participate in this demonstration. Make a protest sign, bring your friends, and share this fundraiser across your social media feeds in order to spread the word around town! We also humbly request that those who are able to do so consider making a donation of any size to the Wild West Action Fund of Nevada. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated directly to the WWAF to ensure affordable abortions remain accessible in our community.
