Take care of a mother and wife

My name is Erik and our family needs help. My wife has been on hospice since October. For more than ten years she has been a homemaker for our four children. We knew this time was coming a few months ago, and we saved to cover expenses when I would stay home with her.

I am afraid of not covering the mortgage soon. Our health insurance is covering the medical costs well, but the utilities and household costs are adding up fast. Paying the work benefits completely out of pocket, and the uncertainty of how long we will be in this state is taking an emotional, spiritual, and physical toll.

She has never wanted much in life. To be safe in her home and her children to have an education are what's most important to her. We have a son in high school on the honor roll, a daughter in middle school, and another daughter in elementary school. Our eldest is starting her post college career. The family has been so supportive and helpful in her care. We are all doing our best to provide continuity for the children.

We have swallowed our pride and have applied to charity. I have applied for public assistance. Waiting for decisions and trying not to panic. Thankful of each day we have, knowing it won't be many more.
