TAKE Dance NY Season 2023
Tax deductible
TAKE Dance is thrilled to announce that we have been invited for a Fall return to Arts On Site located in the East Village. Last year was our first time back for live performances since pre-pandemic days in New York and we very much look forward to continuing the tradition of bringing you new, live work in the city we call home.
This Fall we bring you two world premieres, Bamboo Dreams by Artistic Director Takehiro Ueyama and If You Find Yourself Missing by Associate Director Jill Echo as well as a revival of 10/18/2022, a requiem for our late board member James Kraft choreographed by Take.
Bamboo Dreams is inspired by the music of Japanese Composer, Ryuichi Sakamoto, one of Take's favorite composers since his teenage days in Japan. With the recent passing of Mr. Sakamoto, this seemed like the perfect time to pay homage and create new work with music from the pioneering composer who has touched so many and will continue to do so for generations to come. Bamboo Dreams is paired with 10/18/22, both memories of inspirational Men in Take's life.
If You Find Yourself Missing is an exploration of how we stay connected to our spirit as we move in the world. Text and dance combine to express the story of lost and found.
Our continued mission to bring real, live, work performed by real, live people seems more crucial than ever. We don't take this mission lightly. We would love to have you join us for the final product of our time together in the studio, and we hope for a beautiful and shared experience for us all.
However, we cannot do this alone. To make our artistic vision a reality we need to raise $5000, the majority of which will directly cover the dancer’s rehearsal and performance pay. We depend on your generosity to make it possible for these performers to showcase their artistry as they transform the choreographer's vision into living work. Other expenses include the rental of the rehearsal spaces, costumes and our outstanding technical crew.
Your tax-deductible donations will not only support the creation of new, groundbreaking work but will also help ensure all of the artists of TAKE Dance continue to flourish. We understand that times are tough, but one way to cope with the difficult times is through experiencing live art, in person, having a shared experience of truth and hope and beauty. Please join us in this mission to bring dance to the stage. None of this will be possible without the support of donors like you. We thank you for your generosity and hope to see you at the performance in October.

TAKE Dance is a NYC-based contemporary dance company founded by Artistic Director Takehiro Ueyama. Since its inception in 2005, TAKE Dance has been praised for its exciting athletic movement and unusual sensitivity to create distinctive work that is uniquely “TAKE”. The Company’s mission is to create and stage works that deepen society’s sensitivity and understanding of the human condition. The fusion of Eastern and Western culture is a key element in what makes Take’s work truly one of a kind. By making bold choices in movement, musical selections, and subject matter, TAKE Dance strives not simply to be seen but rather, fully experienced. Take utilizes action to inspire action: the works created and performed by the Company are based on socially relevant issues and seek to make a positive impact on society. TAKE Dance seeks to use the human body to its fullest capacity, smashing the barriers created by language, skin color, gender, or religion. By taking these aforementioned differences that have become so enormously divisive and linking them, Take’s work speaks to a wide range of audience members and demonstrates that despite the variation that exists between us, we are all ultimately connected to one another.
