Take kids on a Persian Norouz adventure with Gorbeh the cat
Back in 2016 Persian Language Online (PLOL) , a UK based charity that supports the learning of Farsi, decided to make some ground breaking Farsi learning games specifically designed specifically for pre-school children. These games were published in an app and can be used on phones and tablets. The aim was for children to learn through playing and to associate Farsi with fun.
The games follow Gorbeh (the cat) and friends as they navigates their way around a city, a farm and the seaside. The games teach the basic foundations of Farsi in an age appropriate way. The vocabulary covers colours, numbers, weather etc. Since being launched the games have been enjoyed by thousands of children worldwide.
We now want to include some games specifically about Norouz, Persian New Year. Gorbeh will take children on adventures where they learn about the haft seen, learn a Norouz song, paint eggs and cook some food for Norouz and other immersive games. To develop these new games we need to raise some money. App development and high quality illustrations are costly and we need to raise funds so these games can continue to be free to download. The funds raised will go to pay for illustration, animation, voice recording and the development costs of the games.
Many languages are well served by apps for children, such as Duolingo. However, Farsi/Persian has been neglected in this regard. Celebrating Persian culture and language in a way that creates positive associations for the younger generation is vital. However, this will only happen if we all come together and support this initiative.
