Take my Latin class to NYC to see Hadestown!
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Hannah Casey and I have taught Latin at Boys' Latin, an all-boys charter high school in West Philadelphia, for the past 13 years. One of my favorite stories to teach in my Latin classes is the heartbreaking myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, written by Ovid and read in adapted Latin by my Latin IV students each year. It just so happens that one of the top hits on Broadway right now is the inspired, and inspiring, Hadestown, which tells the story of Orpheus and Eurydice.
For many years, I have been dying to take my Latin IV students to see a production of Hadestown, but Covid restrictions, scheduling issues, and mostly budget have been in our way. This year, however, I have a hold on a block of tickets for a matinee performance of the show during the last few weeks of our semester together, and if I am able to secure funding, I can subsidize a trip for my whole class to take a bus to NYC, have a meal and do a bit of exploring, and then finally enjoy a performance of Hadestown, a chance for them to see this wonderful show and experience the magic for themselves.
Your donation will leave my department budget intact for all the other Latin-related activities and events we have planned for this year, so I can provide a special trip for a special group of young men reading this eternally appealing story.
If you are able to contribute, your donation will offset the cost of the tickets and bus transportation.
Gratias maximas vobis ago!
Edit/update: Thank you all so much for your contributions. Since you have exceeded my original request, I have increased the goal by a small amount to see if we can cover lunch for the boys and the fees for the donation campaign. Gratias iterum!
