Introducing Margot

Hey everyone! It’s time for a fresh start with a new pup, and I’m thrilled to introduce you to Margot, my golden retriever, who’s about to join the family!

Why the Change?
You might remember Cal, my previous service dog in training. We worked our butts off for a year, but public access training just isn’t Cal’s thing. Between his reactivity with other dogs and a temperament that didn’t quite fit the service dog life, we’ve decided to let him retire at the ripe age of 1 year old. He’s got potential for therapy work and dog sports, and I’m looking forward to seeing him shine in those areas. He's also going to continue with at-home service work, providing invaluable help with my migraines, seizures, and dissociation.

How I Met Margot
I found Margot through a local trainer who had two golden retriever puppies. It turns out that Margot’s sister was a lot like Cal, which made me realize I was probably fighting against nature with him...
Margot, on the other hand, seems to have the right focus and personality for the job.

Why This Time Is Different
I’ve spent a lot on Cal, and I know some of you might be wondering, “Why are we doing this again?” The short answer is: I need to. For some context, being disabled has meant I missed out on seeing my grandma before she passed away because I couldn’t drive home for Christmas in 2023. Public access skills are crucial for me to manage my symptoms at doctors' appointments and regain the confidence to do everyday things like grocery shopping. I honestly feel that a service dog is my last option to improve my life and get back to normal.

I’ve learned a lot from training Cal, and I’m more prepared this time around. I also recognize that it’s not uncommon for owner-trainers to have to wash their first dog.

The Financials
Thankfully, I’ve got a lot of supplies left over from Cal, so the funds for Margot will mainly cover her adoption fee of $2500. I’ve already put down $500, and I’m hoping to raise the remaining $2000 before Labor Day when Margot’s set to come home.

I’m asking for your help to make this transition smoother. Your support means the world to me, and Margot’s future training is crucial for getting me back to feeling safe and confident in daily life.

Thank you for being part of this journey. I promise to keep you updated on Margot’s progress and hopefully share some more fun moments soon!

Much love,
Elizabeth, Margot, and Cal
