Honoring Our Mother's Wish

On Thursday, July 2nd, 2015 at approximately 8:30 a.m. Mary Waitiki (69) passed away at the Stanford Hospital after a seven-year struggle with colon cancer.

In 2009, Doctors diagnosed Mary with advanced stage 4 cancer. She battled through and miraculously survived a series of surgeries tackling the tumors, but it was not enough for remission.  However, Mary was determined to not let the cancer affect her life. She set out to continue fulfilling God's plan, spreading her heart felt love and learned wisdom to her family and friends.

Seven disease-free years went by and Mary enjoyed every waking moment without chemotherapy - granted doctors monitored her regularly.

In January 2015, there was a recurrence in her cancer and it spread to other parts of her vital organs. In the efforts to prolong her life, Mary was advised to consider chemotherapy but her body could only endure two cycles. To her demise, her condition took a turn for the worst.

She wished to be situated back home with her family in Kenya to enjoy her limited time on earth but she was inhibited by her medical limitations.

"Cancer can take away all of my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart, and it cannot touch my soul." - Jim Valvano

Cancer may have affected her physical capabilities but her heart continued to touch everyone that she came across. She was a saint to many and considered a bundle of joy by all her peers.

Mary lived by a code of conduct based on mutual respect, and her dying wish was to be peacefully buried back home where her beloved family may enjoy the comfort of her love and presence.

We would like to say thank you for all your prayers and support, and express our deepest gratitude for any financial contributions you would care to consider to help Mary's return to Kenya. Every donation not only covers the funeral and travel expenses, but it also leads us one step closer to paying her respects and fulfilling her wish of returning back home in Kenya.
