Help Girls #TakeTheLeapAndLead
At GIRLS FOR A CHANGE, (GFAC), prepares girls to be ready to take action…to take the leap and lead. We invite you to take the leap and make a huge difference in a girl’s life by donating to GFAC today.
The mission of Girls For A Change (GFAC) is to, “Support and inspire black girls and other girls of color to visualize their bright futures and potential through the discovery, development, and social change innovation in their communities. In doing so, they develop key skills they needed for success.”
Now is the time to empower black girls and other girls of color in America to take charge of their futures. Now is the time to strive to combat overt sexism, racism, xenophobia and generational poverty. Now is the time to step up, get to work, and create the world we want for our girls! Girls For A Change has a new approach to building a woman...one girl at a time.
HELP GIRLS TAKE THE LEAP AND LEAD
Support our transformational afterschool and summer girl-focused center. Our girls deserve imaginative spaces where they can grow and learn. GFAC’s first state licensed girls’ center will be located south of the James; in the area defined as south of the James, west of Interstate 95 and south of Chester, Virginia.
We have planned a “STEAM lab,” to immerse girls in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math challenges and explore STEAM and media arts through applied technology and project-based learning. Computer rooms will be available for homework and instructional assistance, and daily online activities will be scheduled. In addition to daily programs, we offer a wide variety of weekly themes including visual arts, health & wellness, financial literacy, green living, and more. Our carefully designed programs are a combination of academic support, character development, leadership skills, social change, girl power, and fun!
GFAC is prepared to connect our community with one of its most wasted resource; Black girls and other girls of color. We are meeting an important need in the metro area by creating a space where girls can spend their time creating memories, celebrating sisterhood, building their skill set and a network of resources.
With YOUR HELP, GFAC plans to open in the summer of 2017 serving girls in grades 3-12. A safe environment, the center will make it possible for us to meet the needs of younger girls and improve access to quality programming for their families. The center will also be a place where Hugs are Always a Priority!
Successful completion of our Campaign will establish a coalition, a dynamic body, to drive meaningful change for girls in metro Richmond, Virginia —particularly young women of color. In collaboration with government leaders, advocates, policy experts, and women leaders, we will prioritize and invest in local young women and girls that face additional obstacles and discrimination solely because of their race, social class, gender.
Participation in Campaign for GFAC allows every person in the community to be part of this exciting moment of expanding opportunity for local girls. Beyond donations there will be many opportunities to volunteer including working directly with girls, supporting events aimed at addressing the opportunity gap as well as to become a part of a core of advocates supporting Black girls and other girls of color in our area.
Together, we can position ourselves to advocate for and ensure that all Richmond-metro area young women and girls have access to quality education, health care, leadership skills, and the employment opportunities they need to succeed and thrive.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE USED?
With Your GoFundMe support, GFAC can improve outcomes for girls, and their families in the metro area, support job creation while providing a safe, nurturing, and growing environment for girls including girls living in marginalized communities and of color. Your donation will allow us to host a grand opening for the new center and provide a quality summer camp Academy from June - August 2017. Your funds will improve the access of families that need affordable summer camp and afterschool services via assistantships and will support programming that addresses the unique needs of girls. Funding proceeds will also be allocated to purchase office supplies, kitchen appliances, landscaping materials, office furniture, decorations, computers, equipment and so much more!
Your financial contribution is immensely important, and we promise that by joining with GFAC you will position local girls to “Leap to Lead” at an earlier age. THANK YOU for your donation which is greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the leap to make a huge difference in a girl’s life!
A Message From Our CEO
"Despite the data, there is a persistent and widespread notion that girls and young women of color in the United States are doing fine. America has made much progress over the last few decades from Civil Rights to Women's Rights. However, some very real challenges and disparities still exist for women and girls of color, specifically Black girls. We can no longer afford to leave Black girls at the margins of our concerns in the company of the achievement gap, the dropout crisis, sexual harassment, persistently higher rates of poverty, and the school-to-prison pipeline. Instead, we must develop gender and race-conscious prisms that capture the vulnerabilities they experience today and create portals of access for them to Leap into Leadership. GFAC is devoted to this quest and our “City Strategy” represents our laser focus on our goals. We predict that GFAC's "City Strategy," will totally transform Richmond,Virginia and beyond ”
