Taking on the Devizes - Westminster Canoe Race
The ‘D-W ’ is considered the world’s toughest canoe race. 125 miles non-stop in a K2 (2-person kayak). Oh, and there are 77 portages (that’s where you ‘hop’ out of the boat and run it around a lock). It starts Easter Saturday and we hope to arrive in Westminster about 24hrs later on Easter Day. Yes, that means paddling in the dark, trying to head for locks rather than weirs!
So it seems an obvious choice for someone who has been paddling for just 2 seasons! Somehow Donald and I have slipped through the application process and now we’re committed.
Longest paddle to date? 43 miles
Worst weather conditions? -3 degrees, feels like -6, running aground in ice
Likelihood of finishing? Let’s find out…
I’m hoping to raise much-needed funds for Dorothy House - a really special hospice where Dad received such excellent care in his last days. Your support will mean that such care can be afforded to more families when it matters most.
Donald is raising for an amazing children’s home in South Africa which means a lot to his family. So we have a lot of motivation to get to the end!
Thank you in advance for your support…
