Taking What We Need

Taking What We Need is an informal  volunteer-run community group dedicated to helping trans women, trans-feminine (AMAB) and two spirit
people get what they need through discretionary funding. Our fund is open to everyone in the trans-feminine community to help cover some of high
costs related to transitioning that we must pau out of pocket  Currently, Taking What We Need is prioritizing Black & Indigenous applicants in Tio'Tia:ke-Montreal. This means that these applicants will be moved to the front of our waiting list and if they had already applied since we started our work
in 2015, they can reapply.  Applicants receive $1000, being given out on a rotating chronological/lottery system. This is an ongoing initiative, so we
are looking for consistent donations above and beyond our goal. 

Please note that Taking What We Need is NOT a non-profit organization. We are three transwomen who have been volunteering our time since 2015
to help out our sisters and our community in Montréal. We do this from the bottom of our hearts and for the most part our volunteer labour goes
unrecognized. We are not a welfare organization, we are a mutual aid and solidarity network. Please be nice to us!!! 

Taking What We Need est un collectif informel géré par des bénévoles voué à aider les femmes trans, les personnes transféminines (AHAN/AMAB) et personnes two spirit à obtenir ce dont elles ont besoin grâce à un financement discrétionnaire. Notre fonds est ouvert à toutes les personnes de la communauté transféminine pour aider à couvrir une partie des coûts élevés que nous devons payer de notre poche pour transitionner. En ce moment, Taking What We Need priorise les demandes des personnes noires et autochtones à Tio'Tia:ke-Montréal. Cela signifie que leurs candidatures seront placées en haut de notre liste d’attente et que, si elles avaient déjà fait une demande depuis le début de notre travail en 2015, elles peuvent présenter une nouvelle demande. Les personnes qui s’inscrivent à notre fonds reçoivent 1000$, distribués selon un système rotatif chronologique/de tirage au sort. Cette initiative est un projet de long terme, nous sommes donc à la recherche constante de dons même au-delà de notre objectif actuel.

Veuillez noter que Taking What We Need n’est PAS une OBNL (organisation à but non-lucratif). Nous sommes trois femmes trans qui donnons de notre temps libre en tant que bénévoles depuis 2015 pour aider nos sœurs et notre communauté à Montréal. Nous le faisons du fond du cœur et, en grande partie, notre travail bénévole reste invisible. Nous ne sommes pas un organisme de bienfaisance, nous sommes un réseau d’entraide et de solidarité.
