Talon Thornton Cancer Treatment and Family Support
Donation protected
My Dad, Talon Thornton, has had an 10+ year long battle with cancer which in recent years has progressed to stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma. In 2014, after surgery to remove the first kidney tumor, he found he was no longer physically able to coach or officiate taking away a huge source of income from our family and also taking away one of his biggest hobbies and passions. Over the last three years and after multiple surgeries and hospitalizations unfortunately the tumors have spread to his lungs, ribs, and femur. Through genetic testing, he was found to have a rare mutation in a gene that suppresses tumors meaning that, despite treatment, the cancer cells can continue to spread. (BAP 1 Tumor Predisposition Syndrome)
Currently he has at least six tumors in his lungs and ribs despite two surgeries, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and 3 rounds of radiation (there isn’t a chemotherapy that works on renal cell carcinoma). He’s no longer able to drive or work except for a few hours a month that he can do paperwork from home.
My mom is trying to continue to work full time and be a caretaker. They are financially stressed now because of loss of income and increased expenses due to medical bills, medical devices, such as his lift chair and walker that help him at home, and needed modifications to their house. Because of the treatment options available and his genetic mutation the prognosis is unfortunately not good and I would like to help make him as comfortable in their house for as long as possible while relieving some of the stress from the rest of my family. Thank you all for the support that has been given to my family over the last few years, from meals to prayers to kind words.
