Road to World Championships

Hi, my name is Tamara O'Brien and I am a trampoline gymnast. My specialty is double mini trampoline. I have recently been selected to compete for Canada at the 2015 Senior World Championships this
November in Odense, Denmark.

I started gymnastics at the age of two as a recreational sport. My family, nor I, would have ever believed it would take me onto the World Stage. My love for gymnastics has shaped me into the confident, driven young women I have become today.

The first time I competed for Canada was in 2007, at the World Age Group Championships held in Quebec City. From there I have competed for Canada at five World Age Group Competitions, and two Senior World Championships. At my final World Age Group Championships, I was honored to be crowned Tumbling World Champion in the 17-18 women's category.

Through all of these accomplishments, we have always struggled with the financial side of the sport. My mom as a single parent, struggled between work, and getting me to and from practice as well as paying for the sport I had truly fallen in love with. She, with help from family and friends managed to make it all work and through it all I was able to have the best support system growing up.

At the age of thirteen, I was fortunate enough to be sponsored by Woody's Pub  in Coquitlam, BC. They were the only reason I was able to continue to do the sport I grew up with and loved immensely. It was due to their support, both financially and literally, that I accomplished all of my achievements I have to date, I will forever be grateful for their backing.

My sponsorship ended last year when I turned eighteen. The financial responsibilities have now turned to me. I work two part time jobs and struggle with having a part time income for a full time sport.

This year alone, costs have been training, travel to National Championships in Calgary , as well as the training camp/competition held in Great Britain, as our final selection for World championships. I won the competition in England, and am currently ranked first in Canada. I have qualified as the lead women for double mini trampoline for the 2015 World Championships.

Training - $ 1,600.00
Great Britain Training Camp - $ 2,500.00
World Championships Denmark - $ 1,500.00

My goal of $ 5,000.00 will help offset some of the above costs.

I want to thank everyone for their support in my journey, and I'm very excited to devote myself to bring home the best possible result this world championships.
