Tamarindo Children's Community Library

Hi, my name is Paula Londono and I live in Tamarindo, Costa Rica with my husband and our 3 year old son, Ziggy. In Tamarindo and the surrounding area, there is no public library and accessing books can be challenging for many people. Reading to young children is so important for their language skills, it exposes them to new vobabulary and new topics, helps them with their listening and stimulates their imagination. Tamarindo is a very family-friendly community, full of kids of all ages who would greatly benefit from having free access to books. Seeing Ziggy’s passion for books and the need in the community for a children’s library has inspired me to start one. It will be the Tamarindo Children’s Community Library, a free bilingual library for all the kids of the town and surrounding areas. The aim is to set up the library, make it accessible and inclusive, and positively impact our local community.

I am dedicating my time to managing and seeing this project through and I have formed a committee with other community volunteers. The local restaurant, Bistro Langosta has provided a space to host the library.

At this stage we are looking to raise funds to build the space and get the library going. We need a soft floor for kids to sit on, lots of wooden shelves and wooden boxes to display books, floor cushions and decorations to make the space cozy, a sign, stickers to label books, a library software to run the lending system and most importantly lots and lots of books in English and in Spanish. We will continue to need funds for the library to operate, to replace and add books and to expand access.

All people contributing to this project are doing so voluntarily and 100% of all your donations will go directly to the establishment and growth of the library.
