Tammy Brewer: Medical expenses -Cancer treatment

• My sister, Tammy Brewer was hospitalized last month due to an abscess growth requiring extensive surgery x2 due to infection. During the course of the hospitalization, a mass was located and biopsied. The biopsies came back positive for adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. • She has been in the nursing home at AHC Decatur Co since June 2 for rehabilitation, nursing, and wound care. She had her consultation at Kirkland Cancer Center on 6/19 and was told the cancer is aggressive, expansive, and involves several areas. 

Due to the expansiveness and complications, surgery is currently not an option. As of now, her options are chemo & radiation combo, or nothing. We may explore other options/second opinions in the near future as we want to make sure she has the BEST chances at RECOVERY and BEST QUALITY OF LIFE. Tammy is scheduled to start intensive radiation July 6, and will meet with her chemo Dr on July 3. Treatments will be daily, an hour from where she lives, for at least 6 weeks. As one can imagine, the course of medical care will match the expansiveness of the cancer. As of 6/21/23, she was on her 20th day of rehab with Ameri-Group insurance and may be ‘cut’ at any time. Her current review date is Monday 6/26/23…each review date holds a chance of either an extension of care approval(what she needs), or a denial of services(which will incur further steps to insure she is still able to get medical care for nursing/wounds, etc while proceeding with her cancer treatment). She is still in dire need of medical care and will continue to be for her cancer treatments. She has applied for Medicaid, however we have not been told the results yet. Even with Medicaid if granted, the medical needs and further needs will be overwhelming. Tammy is a woman of faith, is loved dearly by her husband, children, parents, siblings, nieces & nephews, and precious grandchildren. She is actively involved with her church and community. She adores her children, grandchildren, nieces , and nephews-and has spent many hour spoiling them rotten. She is fighting daily to ‘keep her head up’. She knows God will be with her, as will her family and friends. If you could find it in your heart to donate in any way, it would be very much appreciated. I am Teri Kapp, Tammy’s middle sister.
