Tammy’s Eyes

As many of you know, my dear friend Tammy has been thriving with stage 4 breast cancer for 7 years. She has a passion for life like no other and has never given up hope! She likes to travel and is always on the go exploring and experiencing everything life has to offer. The last four meds she has been on have not worked but she pushed on with a brave face. The current chemo drug she is on is working and shrinking her cancer. However, this med is damaging her eyes. She describes the vision loss as being in a tunnel and she can’t focus on TV, read books, or safely drive while getting this med.  It significantly impacts her quality of life and dims that bright enthusiastic passion for life inside her. She had hoped to get on a new med but her doctor wants to keep going with this one as long as it working on the cancer. She has seen an eye specialist and is ready to try anything to give her improved vision.  The solution that the eye doctor wants to try is sclera contact lenses. She is being fitted for these lenses this week. Insurance does not cover them and they are going to cost close to $4000 for the fitting of the lenses and a year’s supply.
