"Help Tammy"

Tammy Storey, my sister-in-law, is an unbelievably strong woman.  She has been tested more than any one person deserves. Eight years ago her husband was murdered! After being shot three times in the back, he died in her arms while waiting on emergency services to arrive. Their three young children heard gun fire and ran outside to see their father had been shot. This is too much for anyone to overcome, let alone three small children.

Tammy and her husband had been preparing their new BBQ restaurant in Milano, TX for its grand opening in the coming months. After her husband’s death, Tammy couldn’t take the much needed time to mourn because she needed income. For 25+ years her husband had been the bread winner of the family. She needed to get the restaurant open quickly. She kept her faith and worked very hard. After all, she had herself and three children to support; Amanda (8), Melinda (6) and Gregory (2). After much hard work she was finally able to open the doors of Smokin’ Oak BBQ. She worked 14-16 hour days to provide for her children. What Tammy didn’t know was the struggle, pain, stress, and heartache had just begun for her and her children.

Just a year after her husband’s untimely death, Tammy was diagnosed with breast cancer. She spent the next year in and out of the hospital enduring the mental and physical pain of a full mastectomy, and withstood the dreaded treatments of chemo therapy. All the while she kept the restaurant open by herself, enlisting the help of others as she could. As sick as she was, she worked the long days; constantly nauseated, as she watched her beautiful hair fall to the floor. A year later, thank the good Lord, Tammy won her battle with cancer. There's no way she would've given up on her children. Since Tammy's battle with cancer, along with raising her children and working endless hours, she still spends much of her off time finding ways to raise money for breast cancer awareness. She created "Team Tammy", raising approximately $50,000 over the course of 4 years.

Tammy pushed through the next few years living as normal as one can. Finally, in 2014 she met Leo Fennessey, a kind man that came into her life and loved her and her children. Their relationship began to grow. The kids had a good man in their life again. Tammy had help with all of life’s struggles, and most of all she had a companion.

In October of 2016 Leo bought a nice four-bedroom cul-de-sac home in Rockdale, Texas for himself, Tammy and the three children; now 16, 14, and 10. Tammy finally felt as though her family’s life of struggles and pain would come to an end. Evidently Tammy's life test was not complete. Just a short two months later, the now family of five was celebrating Christmas. On Christmas Eve morning, Leo was so excited to see the kids glowing faces, that he convinced Tammy to allow them to have Christmas early. They decided they would open their gifts Christmas Eve morning. Soon after the excitement had settled and the kids were off enjoying all their gifts, it was time to prepare for a trip to see family. Tammy was inside preparing and Leo headed outside to change a tire due to a pre-Christmas Eve flat. Tammy finished up and went outside to check on Leo, but what she found would again change her and her children’s lives forever. Leo had suffered a major heart attack. Tammy and her oldest daughter worked to save him while awaiting an ambulance, but the damage had been done. Leo had passed on. Tammy's next life test had begun.

Sadly, the new home Leo, Tammy, and her children just moved into cannot be afforded on Tammy's income alone. She must move back into their previous house. The house is a small mobile home, that resides directly behind the restaurant. The mobile home is older and in need of significant repair. Our goal is to raise as much money as we can to help rebuild Tammy's home. We seek funds for new cabinets, flooring, bathtubs showers, doors, windows. We will repair as much as we can with the money we raise.

Tammy has struggled more than any person I have ever known, yet she keeps pushing forward. She is always looking for ways to help others, but this time she needs our help. Let’s all come together for Tammy and the children. Every little donation helps and is greatly appreciated.
