Synopsis

Tangerine Drum Machine is a short film written and directed by Reilly McHugh. It centers around a young musician with synesthesia--a condition that intertwines her senses and causes her to see the color orange when she plays the drums, but loses this unique ability after a traumatic experience.

A journey of pain, healing, friendship, and joy, Tangerine Drum Machine puts complex young women and their stories at the forefront, while also spotlighting the power of music and art.

Goals

Tangerine Drum Machine is a unique project that combines ambition, trauma, music, emotion, and the uniquely frustrating experience of existing as a woman in the world.

It is the brainchild of Reilly McHugh, a young, queer woman entering the film industry and seeking to tell her own stories; refelective of thoughts, experiences, and worlds that haven’t always been represented on screen.

Tangerine Drum Machine brings together a collection of new voices with a diverse crew from a variety of backgrounds, communities, and experience levels. With Zack Krasnansky, Allison Lee, Mary Arata, Alex Glover, and Yulissa Rosario producing, Natalia Lugo and Yazemin Yilmaz behind the camera, and Jack Levinson composing original music, this film seeks to become a refreshing yet powerful piece of art.

Tangerine Drum Machine is set to enter production in early January, and be completed by May 2023, after which it will embark on a festival run. Any and all contributions are welcome and much appreciated; films don’t make themselves, but are created by people who invest in the genesis of their potential. This project has the talent behind it, and just needs to get off the ground.

This is Reilly McHugh’s senior year thesis film, and her biggest project to date. Contributions will cover the costs of:
