Historic Tanner Fire Damage Fund
Tax deductible
Historic Tanner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church is the oldest African-American Church in the State of Arizona, serving the Phoenix Metropolitan community since 1886. Tanner was designated as a historic site by the City of Phoenix in December 2010. We serve a multi-racial congregation where ALL are WELCOME with OPEN ARMS.
On Friday, January 27th Historic Tanner was victimized by an arsonist causing extensive damage to the interior of the Sanctuary and the lower level of the church. Insurance adjusters estimate that we will be displaced for at least 6 months.
Although insurance will cover a portion of the transitional costs we need additional funds for the temporary relocation of our worship services, revival, and special services, children's church, church school, teen ministry, other programs, meetings and rehearsals, which previously took place in the church facility weekly.
In addition, Tanner's Food Pantry Ministry, which serves the homeless and disadvantaged persons in our community twice a week, will also need to be relocated in order to continue its outreach ministry.
We estimate the costs associated with our temporary relocation to be in excess of $100,000. Please make a donation to help us reach this goal.
PRAYER CHANGES THINGS! We ask that you pray for our journey forward!
Expenses have already begun to incur and will continue for each Sunday that we are unable to worship at Historic Tanner Chapel AME Church.
Please share our story with your friends and family. Pictures of the damage can be found on our website .
