Tanya Connor’s fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Hi, my name is Matthew Connor, My mother Tanya Connor has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (an aggressive blood cancer)She was hospitalized in Harare to have challenging, intensive chemotherapy as the doctor informed us she would have a month to live if treatment wasn’t started immediately. As a family we opted for her to be treated. Unfortunately she was not able to receive the specialist care and treatment she needs in Harare. Our resources for blood and platelets especially for her rare B Negative blood type was an overwhelming challenge. Her attending doctor informed us, for her to have any chance of surviving she needed to get to Johannesburg asap. My mom made the flight against the odds, to Netcare Olivedale Hospital in Joburg, where she is receiving the very best care in an ICU isolated private ward with specialist nursing. Blood transfusions , platelets, plasma and monitoring. Whilst her platelets and hemoglobin have improved she is still in a compromised state. Even here in SA B- blood is a challenge. My mom is an enthusiastic proud granny who has so much to live for. Unfortunately the cost of this treatment is astronomical, 1 pint of blood is R3000.00 platelets R16000.00, my mom needs 2/3 pints of each a day till she stabilizes. In addition to the blood bank bill, the hospital and pathology costs are exorbitant. As a family we are liquidating assets to try cover the costs but our funds will soon be exhausted. Her local medical aid is extremely limited. I (Mathew Connor Jnr) am appealing to anyone who is able to help me with this severe financial crisis. My mom needs your help to have the chance to fight this awful cancer, she’s has beaten all the odds against her thus far.
