Tanya Horton's Breast Cancer Fight
Donation protected
***UPDATE 2***
A visitation will be on Monday, June 19, 2023, at John A. Gentleman Mortuaries & Crematory (14151 Pacific St., Omaha, NE) from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church (15353 Pacific St., Omaha, NE) at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served immediately following the memorial service. One of Tanya's wishes was for the dress code to be spring colors as a celebration of her life.
You may have noticed that the College World Series is going on, so a lot of rooms in Omaha are filled and prices are higher than normal. As a result we've heard some people have chosen to stay in Lincoln and drive back and forth, for those of you not familiar with the area it is about an hour commute. We will be so happy to see whoever is able to make it, and for those who cannot make it we feel your love and support from wherever you are and we know you will be there in spirit.
Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out, brought us food, donated, offered words and prayers of support. Even if we aren't able to respond to all of you we hear all of it and feel your love and support. It means so much, thank you.
***UPDATE***
Tanya always prayed for a miracle, and though it wasn't quite how she imagined, Sunday, June 11th was just that. After spending a full 24 hours asleep, Tanya woke up to spend time with her loved ones. We crammed nearly 20 people in the hospital room (and probably broke every visitation rule) while she talked, laughed, and told some of her favorite stories. The overwhelming surprise to hear her voice again filled our cups so full.
Tanya's biggest wish during this time was to go home. On Monday, June 12th, with the help of her strong brothers that wish was fulfilled. The family gathered around as she slept, knowing she was exactly where she wanted to be.
On Tuesday, June 13th at 8:03 AM, Tanya took her final breath. All members of our family truly believed that she was at peace.
We will post service details as we have more information.
***ORIGINAL POST***
As many of you know, Tanya was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in November 2020 after being clear of early stage breast cancer for nearly two years. Through it all, she has maintained a positive outlook, still putting everyone ahead of herself, and has had a good quality of life making precious lasting memories with her husband, four children and all of her family and friends.
Unfortunately, her battle with cancer has become more difficult. The cancer in her body has aggressively progressed and affected her liver and kidney function.
Tanya was admitted to the UNMC Buffett Cancer Center on Friday, June 9th. She’s still fighting and will continue to fight until the end with many of her loved ones alongside her here in Omaha.
Several of you have offered or asked how you can help. To help Tanya support her family we are asking for donations. We hope this will ease the burden and stress of lost wages and medical expenses. If you are unable to donate you can still contribute by praying she will have the ability, strength, peace and comfort to get through this difficult journey.
Tanya is one of a kind, a loving and generous wife, mom, daughter, sister, and friend.
Thank you so much for your donations and prayers.
