Tanya Pinkerton's Relapsed Lymphoma Case - UPDATE

Hi, friends & family. We have some good news!

Last week, Tanya had an MRI done at Kaiser Oakland. Her doctor tells us that the "MRI looks very good, without obvious evidence of lymphoma at this time indicating you are responding to therapy. "

Tanya's last Rituximab infusion will be next month. She will continue with the Revlamid until the end of 2023. Her side effects are ongoing: gastro, fatigue, and appetite loss.

We could not have gotten this far without the love of our friends and family. The Revlamid is every bit as expensive as we feared and the GoFundMe proceeds covered the worst of it. We are exhausted, but hopeful and thankful.

I’m sure we can collectively agree Tanya Pinkerton’s wide network of friends spans so many different industries, interests, and various stages of all our lives. The common denominator across our relationships with Tanya is her steadfast, loving, compassionate, and giving open heart.

Now, our precious friend Tanya needs our help. Her Follicular Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma has relapsed for the third time, and there is much healthcare business and busyness upcoming for her and Michael over the next 12 months through December 2023.

While we have witnessed that Tanya is the embodiment of grit & grace, there are now external factors that are outside of her reach. Below is brief medical information explaining Tanya’s necessary care she will endure through December 2023.

Tanya has Follicular Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma that has relapsed. Follicular lymphoma is a cancer that starts in white blood cells. These specific white blood cells are called B-cells. The terms "Non-Hodgkins" and “Follicular” come from the way the abnormal white blood cells look.

Tanya's doctors are prescribing R-Squared treatment. R2 is a combination of REVLIMID and RITUXIMAB which can help people with previously treated lymphoma that has relapsed. The two drugs synergistically attack lymphoma.

Rituximab is a synthetic Human antibody that selectively attacks B-cells. It is used to treat lymphomas. Tanya will receive courses of weekly infusions throughout December 2022 and infusions once a month from January 2023 through May 2023 (One week off between courses).

Revlimid is a drug that re-activates the immune system and restricts cancer cells. Beginning at the same time as the Rituximab infusions, Tanya takes one pill per day for twelve months.

There are many scary things to keep in mind. The most important one is that it might not work and treatment is stopped early (the doctors will be watching and there are other options). There will be side effects. Revlimid is related to Thalidomide, and its many side effects and warnings include increased mortality from serious and fatal cardiac adverse reactions; hepatotoxicity from failure and fatalities of liver function. R-squared is immunotherapy. Separately and differently, many of the chemo side effects aren't likely.
