Tanyka Medical Treatment

Dear Friends,

Shortly after celebrating her 40 th birthday and while enthusiastically preparing for the next phase of her life, our dear friend, Tanyka K. Talbot, was diagnosed in May 2021 with Stage 3 Esophageal Cancer. This type of cancer is relatively rare with fewer than 200,000 persons
worldwide being diagnosed annually. 

The Journey

On presentation, Tanyka had locally advanced disease and her treatment included chemotherapy and radiation followed by major surgery (tri-incisional esophagectomy) in February 2022. Her final pathology revealed the need for additional treatment. Accordingly, Tanyka has been scheduled by her oncologist to commence Immunotherapy (Opdivo) which is deemed the most suitable treatment in light of all the circumstances.  

With admirable grace, determination and faith in God, Tanyka has embraced her journey with a strengthened resolve to continue fulfilling her God-given purpose despite the challenges. Due to the time needed for treatment and the diminution in her physical capacity, Tanyka, lost her job and health insurance coverage approximately one year ago. Tanyka now desperately needs financial assistance and it is with a hopeful heart that I write to request your assistance in covering her treatment costs for this leg of her journey. 

Current Treatment Costs

The medication for Immunotherapy is unavailable in Jamaica and it is quite costly being approximately USD$8,227.00 per 240mg dose of treatment. It is envisioned that Tanyka will receive 240mg every two weeks for 8 doses followed by 480mg every 4 weeks for another 8 doses. We anticipate that her medication coupled with doctors’ fees will cost in the region of USD$210,000. 

Please note that Tanyka had self-funded her treatment up to this point and is now seeking our help based on the expensive nature of this aspect of her treatment. As friends of Tanyka, we are in constant prayer for her complete healing and recovery because we know that with God, all things are possible. We can help ease the financial burden that Tanyka and her family are currently experiencing. Our goal is to raise $210,000 which will cover the projected cost for medication and doctor’s fees.
