Tara Chisholm’s Lymphoma Journey
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Deb and I am one of the many parents that have had a child that needed a place to play sport outside of traditional spaces. Tara and her husband Derek Whitson are the foundation of adaptive sport in Medicine Hat and surrounding areas and if you have ever met them you are immediately drawn to their collective energy and passion for inclusion and participation in sport and recreation. Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport and Recreation is their brain child. Many hours, days and years have gone into our community by this couple-from coaching, organizing, gathering volunteers, travelling, equipment repair, programming, and grant writing for equipment and funds for programs for everyone to play and participate. They are such a well respected duo in our community and when you look up the definition of volunteer you see Tara and Derek’s names. If you have had the privilege of hearing Tara speak about inclusion in sport you will be forever moved by her integrity, knowledge, and passion.
As in any life adversity can strike at any time. Unfortunately, this past year has handed it to these two in spades. Firstly, Derek had his round with cancer and subsequent treatment of which he faced with his Olympian fortitude, and secondly, it is now Tara’s Lymphoma journey is the most recent shocker. She has started chemotherapy, which is hitting her usually high energy with huge force and limiting her energy. This will impact many things for both of them. At this point, we do not know how long this treatment will take and if it can all be done here in Medicine Hat, so we, as a community, would appreciate if you are able to contribute towards future medical expenses of travel, food, and accommodation for Tara and Derek-our own local dynamic duo. If you aren’t able to please keep them in your thoughts and prayers and send good vibes their way.
