Tartan football helmet fundraiser

As you know I have retired. While I am not running the team, I still helped out coaching this year and plan to assist again.

Every two years the football helmets need to be recertified. When the company who looks after this came to check our helmets last week, it was discovered that about 30 of the 50 needed to be replaced. There is a ten year shelf life of a helmet. These were purchased in 2014 so they have reached their end.

The total helmet cost will be about $12-13000. I am not sure the football program will survive with this obstacle.

I am biased, but football at WDSS has been very important to the culture of the school over the years. It's not because of one thing or one person but the result of many people and experiences we have all had.

Instead of sitting back and waiting for someone who is not invested in Tartan football to make a decision, I want to be proactive and not give anyone a reason to cancel the program.

We did have a sign up list last week with about 35 names so far. While I am not at the school except for supply teaching, I will ensure that there is a favourable possibility that there will be a team next fall.

If for some reason the school coaches think they can not field a team, then all monies would be refunded.
