Taryns VCD Therapy
Donation protected
In December Taryn started complaining of getting short of breath during volleyball practice. By Jan it was noticable that she was struggling. After seeing a pulmonologist, she was diagnosed with VCD (see below for more info). She has taken steps with speech therapy to try to improve but she needs more help. There is a Dr in Denver who specializes in her condition . He has a team of Drs and therapist that will put her though a week long program to test, train and teach. While there she will be put through multiple tests so that they can make a plan, specifically for her, to be able to move forward and compete at the level she is used to.
Vocal cord dysfunction (also known as exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction) is a common condition characterized by the throat inexplicably closing during rigorous exercise. It can dramatically increase breathing difficulty, diminish performance and often causes panic in those who experience it.
