Tasso Time 2023
Donation protected
Tasso Time 2022 went AMAZINGLY well, and we are so appreciative of the money that was raised to host the event. We hope that 2023 will again bring together members of the Houma Nation and relatives from other southeastern tribes to reclaim a traditional gathering of our people.
In 2023, we're adding to the long list of traditional crafts and games that were demonstrated in 2022. On top of carving, weaving, plant knowledge, Native Language speaking, and serving traditional foods, we're adding:
- social dancing
- stomp dancing
- elders' circle
- dugout canoe making
- jewelry making
- historical photo exhibit and community photo digitizing
We have Houma and other Southeastern Indigenous culture bearers joining us to share their knowledge from as far away as Alabama. And, we're expecting even more Houma and other native attendees than 2022 including, potentially, relatives from Oklahoma.
All of that to say, with our expanding event we've had to increase our GoFundMe goal. This funding will cover the honorariums to 14 Indigenous individuals and groups providing demonstrations, grocery costs to feed approximately 200 people over the weekend (and provide elders with meals after the event), and compostable general supplies (the remains of which will be collected and used for Indigenous gardens and farms after the event).
Basic Budget Costs:
- Honorariums - $300/culture bearer(s)
- Food & Supplies - $2,000
- Travel & Accommodations - $2,000 (out-of-state culture bearers)
Thank you for considering donating and helping us have another great year! Yakuke Tcetu'!!
