Maria's Caregiver Fund

Our friend Maria de los Angeles needs your help. Over the past 7 years, she has been a caregiver for her parents, taking care of them at home while working jobs on the side. We have followed her daily trials and tribulations as she dealt with the State’s, local government’s, and health care bureaucracies. Over time, we saw her less and less as she spent more time at home with her ailing parents. The work she did would wear anyone down within the first few months -- but somehow Maria persevered.
Maria’s mother passed away last October and despite being grief-stricken she continued on caregiving for her father. Maria’s devotion to her parents and caregiving responsibilities made it impossible for her to work full-time. Unfortunately, it was not enough. This week her father has been taken into state care and she is facing near certain homelessness. We are trying to help Maria get her back on her feet after a very challenging year.
Maria has been a mainstay of Miami’s tech and social media community, attending and covering all the events from 2006 until about 2012, when we started seeing her less and less. A prolific and talented writer, she penned a number of articles about life in South Florida, including the tech scene as well as travel and tourism. It was a joy to read her articles and to get her creative spin on things.
This is a call to everyone who knows her and knows of her … we are heartbroken by these developments, and yet none of us single handedly can help her. We hope to band together as a community to help. Any funds you can donate would be greatly appreciated so Maria can secure housing to begin this next chapter in life.
