Tayara Romero Peña's ACL Surgery & Rehabilitation
Donation protected
Hey all,
My name is Tayara Romero Peña, and I recently completely tore my ACL while competing at the international level with my Club World's Ultimate Frisbee team, MECLAO, at Torneo Eterna Primavera (TEP) in Medellin, Colombia.
I have surgery scheduled for May 30th, 2023. I will also have to endure and experience physical therapy for about 7-9 months before I can return to the field to play the sport I have dedicated myself and my life to since I was a freshman at Somerville High School in Massachusetts in 2015. Insurance isn't covering my whole procedure and its necessities, leaving me with this big estimated out-of-pocket cost, and as a current senior, double majoring in International Relations & Environment, Sustainability, and Policy at Syracuse University. Unfortunately, this injury is at a tough time of transition and tight finances between completing my degree and transitioning into my ambitions post-grad amongst my fields in Washington, DC.
A little bit more about myself, I currently am a professional Ultimate Frisbee athlete who represents the elite D.C. Shadow, the current #1 professional Ultimate Frisbee women's team in the Premier Ultimate League (PUL) and compete with the Syracuse University's Men's Ultimate Frisbee team, Doom Ultimate, at the college level as well. I continuously strive to compete at the highest level possible, and am blessed with the opportunities to grow Ultimate on and off the field through my coaching and media careers.
This procedure will help me get back on the field, get back to coaching, allow me to capture some incredible moments within our sport, and playing and living by this game I cherish so dearly- with the hopes of coming back stronger than ever!
Thank you so much for your support, and if you are unable to support me financially, it is more than appreciated to share this fundraiser for my return to my careers if you have a chance.
If you'd like to send any support, or have any questions/simply wanna stay updated with my journey on my way back to the field, you can follow me on twitter: @tayararomero
