Taylor Shott's Recovery
Donation protected
6 year old Sydney Baehl just wants her Kindergarten friend, Taylor Shott, to get better. This week she found out the reason her friend was not in class was because the five year old girl is in Children’s Hospital in Calgary in critical condition. Now Sydney wants to do everything she can to help Taylor get better and that starts with Taylor’s family being by her side. They have been there the whole time having taken time off of work and staying in a Calgary hotel.
Taylor Shott, age 5, of Lacombe, AB had been attending her aunt’s wedding in Salmon Arm, BC when what started out as a cold got terribly worse. She developed high fever and difficulty breathing so her family took her to emergency department of the Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm. There she was diagnosed with pneumonia and her parents were told the infection was quickly becoming Sepsis, a condition caused by a bacterial infection throughout the body that can be deadly. Taylor was first airlifted to Kamloops, BC where she had to be intubated and sedated. Then, her condition continued to deteriorate so a trauma team was sent from the Children's Hospital in Calgary to Kamloops via air ambulance to take her to bring her back to Children’s Hospital, where she has been since June 9. She will be sedated for at least the rest of the week and will need to remain in the hospital for weeks.
Taylor’s dad has been able to take time off of work, their family’s sole source of income. They have used Air Miles to cover the hotel for the first week but they have no more points and they have been paying for all of their meals. Sydney hopes to raise enough money for Taylor’s family to be able to stay in Calgary for the rest of June.
