Help Me Save My Family from the War in Gaza

I need your immediate help to get my family out of the war zoon in Gaza to safety. Every minute passes by presents a grave and imminent threat to their lives.

I am Wael Abushammala. I live in Houston, TX. After getting my Ph.D. in mathematics, I spent the last 17 years of my life in education teaching Mathematics. I am originally from Gaza. My sister, Nabila Abushammala, and her family, Rami, Nasser, Ahmad, Hala, and Omar Abushammala are in Gaza. I find myself at a loss to come up with the words to explain just how much I love them. How much I am really scared for their lives! They are a great family full of love, generosity, kindness, and hope. I learned from my sister that whatever your situation, no matter how difficult it may seem, God will give you a way out.

Now, my family are going through a constant struggle to stay alive in Gaza. After nearly five months of horror, it became clear to me that the only chance for their survival is to leave Gaza and get to a safe place in Egypt.

Since the start of this genocide, it felt like a nightmare for us. My family has had to flee their home which was destroyed in the bombardment. They have been displaced four times in search of safety. Each time, they leave everything behind. This includes mattresses, blankets, and supplies, and they escape with only the clothes they are wearing at that very moment. They have spent nights on the street and in freezing cold weather near the sea. The terrifying and difficult nights are only getting scarier.

My brother in law, Rami, is an engineer with the United Nation and has been working in the humanitarian field to help other displaced people. He has always motivated me to do more for humanity. His resilience is something I will always be proud of, especially as they face impossible living conditions.

My heart breaks over my niece, Hala. Her smile and heart of gold will shine whenever you meet her. She is now a senior in high school, a crucial and important stage in life, but Hala is now unable to determine her destiny, despite her brilliant potential. My nephew, Omar, the joy of the family, has dreams and deserves to enjoy a peaceful and hopeful life. With your help, he can have the opportunity to evacuate and experience the standard of living that any child deserves. In the meantime, my family is literally trying to survive the horrors of war and imminent ground invasion in Rafah. They have no access to clean water, electricity, or safe refuge-zone.

Nothing around my family is suitable for living or human use. There are no schools, hospitals, roads, streets, water, electricity, internet, or infrastructure. The scarcity of clean water and reliable electricity has become a major daily struggle. The constant fear of violence, the loss of homes and loved ones has affected my family’s psychological state. Their lives have transformed forever, and so have their dreams. The dream now is to escape death and war and go to a safe place.

We are aiming to raise $46,000 to help evacuate the 5 members of my family abroad. Your donation will help cover travel expenses, Egyptian bureaucratic fees, clothes, medicine, housing, and other necessities for rebuilding their lives. All donations will be collected and transferred directly to my sister via Western Union. Your donations will make dreams into reality, one that will let this family have a second chance to live and rebuild a new life in safety and peace.
