Memorial for Harrison King and Knox Martin

Family and friends,

 

In the past two years, the YMCA Camp High Harbour family has lost two members to cancer. Harrison King made his ascension to heaven on November 1, 2021, after three years of battling lung cancer. Edward "Knox" Martin fought and kicked brain cancer's butt for three years until he could fight no more on December 1, 2020.

 

For those who didn't know either of these two incredible people, they could light up a room just by walking in. They had the unique ability to make your day brighter with every interaction, be it a conversation, smile or wave. Besides having beautiful souls and being two outstanding young men, they both served as counselors at YMCA Camp High Harbour at Lake Burton. Every camper and staff member that was lucky enough to meet them, were positively impacted by their love for others. They worked relentlessly and selflessly in their time at camp to change lives and they succeeded.

 

To honor their legacy and inspire more people to be like Harrison and Knox, we are creating a special place at camp in their memory. With your help, we will be creating a memorial space for campers and staff to gather and participate in devotions that teach about the character values that Harrison and Knox lived out. For those who are familiar with the layout of camp, we are transforming the area behind the gym into a memorial garden, devotional spot with a fire pit, and common area where campers and staff can grow closer to each other and God.

 

Any extra funds raised, in surplus of the cost to build the memorial area, will be used to help send more kids to camp. With everyone's help, this can truly be an amazing memorial that can allow these two to keep impacting lives and honor them in a place that meant so much to each of them.

 

Our goal is to complete the memorial this spring and dedicate the space with family and friends. We will post updates to this page as we progress through the fundraiser and construction process.
