My name is Burçin Nalinci, a Turkish-born, American that lives in Kansas City, MO. The two earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria back-to-back on February 6th have been very hard. Watching the news break, counting the lives lost, and seeing orphaned children rescued from rubble piles has been heartbreaking. Coming back from this is going to take long years and communities coming together to recover from it. The scale of the destruction is so large that it is hard not to feel hopeless. In my darkest of times in the past weeks, I was reached out by some of my closest friends and reminded that togetherness brings hope and community becomes the means to support the ones that need it the most. If you have received this thread, you have been a part of my community.
