Lahaina Fire Survivor

Aloha Dear Friends and Family,

In 1989, my cousin, Loreto (aka Rolly) immigrated with his siblings to Hawaii to live the American Dream. In the years to follow, he married Rosalyn and they had 3 beautiful daughters- Angel (23), Andrea (21), and Alyssa (11). A loyal employee with a staunch work ethic, he spent the last 8 years supporting his family as a Cook at the Marriott in Lahaina.

Rolly and Rosalyn are among the thousands that lost EVERYTHING in the Lahain fire, the largest wildfire in modern US history. He was visiting family in Las Vegas when Rosalyn saw black smoke, ran out of their house, and heard people screaming and yelling for help. Fortunately, she safely evacuated with their children. While they are all together and safe in a temporary shelter north of Kaanapali, the disruption to their lives continues. Among the additional stressors of trying to figure out what's next, the reality of the here and now only exacerbates matters. For example, they are being asked to drive their daughter to middle school on back roads to the other side of the mountain. A minimum of 2 hours round trip. Without a job, how do you pay for gas? How do you get a job when you're responsible for transporting your child to school? When will the benefits of this temporary shelter end?........
