Nicolas fights AML - In loving memory of Nicolas
Brave Nicolas who captured the hearts of many near and far, taught us what a true warrior is through his strength in all he has endured since his diagnosis in March of 2018. His playful spirit and smile will live on in our memories and hearts forever.
Please continue to respectfully show your care and support for Chad, Jamelle, Jorie, Gavin and their entire family during this difficult time❣️
Please join me in continuing to show our support for Chad and Jamelle by sharing this GoFundMe page. My hope is to help ease the financial burdens and costs of funeral expenses. Most importantly to be able to allow them to take the time they need to lean on one another and their families as they grieve the heartbreaking loss of sweet “Brave Nicolas.”
I personally would like to thank each and every one of you with my whole heart for all your kind words, love, strength and never ending support over the years for this beautiful family.
Sincerely,
Bridget Henkel
For those of you unaware of Nicolas’ story, please read below:
Dec11/20 Nicolas began his second battle not even a month after celebrating his 4th birthday. Nicolas was first diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia over Easter weekend in 2018 at the very young age of 1 year and 4 months. Since then he has undergone many chemotherapy and radiation treatments and a bone marrow transplant. Though he has had health conditions arise from the intense chemotherapy treatments, we were all relieved to hear he was in remission!! UNFORTUNATELY after not feeling well, multiple trips to the Children's Hospital due to fevers, undergoing multiple tests(including negative Covid test) and bloodwork, Nicolas' family received the news their little warrior will have begin his fight once again. Nicolas was admitted to the Children's Hospital Dec11/20 to under go a dose of Spinal Chemotherapy, a Bone Marrow Aspiration (procedure to take a sample of the liquid of the soft tissue inside the bones) and had a Central Line placed. Dec 12/20 Nicolas started a 5 day round of Chemo Induction. Through all of the procedures he had Nicolas has taught us what a true warrior is, and will continue to do so with his contagious smile. At this time we aren’t certain exactly what the treatment plan looks like, however we do know there will be lengthy stays in Calgary for chemotherapy treatments and another bone marrow transplant. I have reactivated this GoFundMe campaign in hopes that amidst all that is going on in the world we can once again raise money to help ease the financial stress for his parents as they remain at his side during this 2nd fight! Last time Nicolas and his family faced this, they graciously received support from many of you still following them on Nicolas’ journey on this GoFundMe( words still cannot express how thankful they were that your generosity in 2018 raised just over $12,000 which is reflected in the current total funds raised above), funding they previously received from the Family Support for Children With Disabilities is not available to them this timex which really helped out with meals and travel expenses back and forth to Calgary for his treatments. I invite you to follow Brave Nicolas on Facebook or continue to check in here for updates. Please pray for Nicolas and his family during this battle and keep praying for them along the road to recovery. There have also been some news articles recently released through The Red deer Advocate, Sylvan lake news and the Red deer News Now that give a bit more insite as well.
