Teach the Children: Achievement Academy, Liberia
Donation protected
My name is Barbara Eason. I created this site for Marva Cheapoo when I heard about her project. Marva is 78 years old but has a heart that is as young as her dream: to build a school for primary age children in Liberia, West Africa. The school is of modest size and she is using her own money to construct it. Very rarely do we get an opportunity to witness the progress of money contributed for needy causes. I will be posting updated pictures on this site as the building progresses as well as the young, smiling faces when the project has been completed! Barbara
Marva's Story
I lived in Liberia, West Africa for over nineteen years. It was heartbreaking to witness the desperate, unmet need for a school which could provide a solid foundation both educationally and socially, in a safe and stimulating environment. This type of foundation is most effective during the primary years when children are still impressionable and hungry for knowledge and social experience. And so it became my dream to see this school become a reality. The goal is to educate the whole child, providing hands on experiences to assist in developing social skills of friendship, empathy and other core values as well as academics. I truly believe a primary school such as this will shape not only the child’s future but also the future of the country.
The funds I am raising are to build and furnish a six classroom structure. The school will include a cafeteria, which can serve as an auditorium and gym on rainy days. The school library will also allow hours for community use, since there is no available library for children in the country. The work has already begun! Will you help me complete it?
Please give whatever amount you can. Even a small donation makes such a difference in the lives of these children.
Thank you,
Marva Cheapoo
