Teachers Legal Fund to Fight Retaliation by LCPS

On March 22, 2022, the Loudoun County School Board was put on notice that teachers had been inappropriately touched in class repeatedly over a two-month period and did not receive any effective help from the school administration or Loudoun County Public Schools' administration.

 At the June 7th Loudoun School Board meeting one of those teachers (and my very dear friend), Laurie Vandermeulen, spoke out for the first time. She revealed that since March 22nd, LCPS had retaliated against her and that, after she testified before the special grand jury investigating Loudoun County Public Schools, she was told her teaching contract would not be renewed nor would she be eligible for employment with LCPS in the fall. 

Laurie has been encouraged to fight this but she does not have the financial means to do so.  So a group of us, Loudoun Moms, have set up this fundraiser for her ensuing legal expenses. She simply cannot fight the LCPS giant on a teachers salary though, so every dollar will go to her legal fees as she bravely heads into the next phase of this fight.

Laurie is an amazingly devoted special education teacher and a woman of exemplary character. She received “Exceeds Expectations” on her performance review last year, and has not received any negative feedback until her recent termination meeting. Laurie Vandermeulen  is an absolute gift to her profession and beloved by her students. Please join together with Loudoun Moms to raise funds for her to fight against this culture of bullying and intimidation that so many teachers face in our public schools.  Let’s create a movement for even more teachers to exhibit Laurie’s bravery!
