Teaching children pedestrian safety for nearly 60 years
Don protégé
The not-for-profit, Calgary Safety Council, operates the long running Safety City Program to teach children 4-8 about pedestrian safety. We are faced with an expensive move and re-establishing of our program site as the City is going to now use the current site that we have leased from them for nearly 40 years. We desperately need funds to manage building moving, re-establishment of traffic lights and roadway paving to keep the program running next year. Safety City has been attended by Calgary children for close to 60 years and has a definite community benefit. Our hope is that the education they receive at Safety City will help to save lives. An April 1st article in The Calgary Herald, "Why 'preventable' pedestrian deaths are climbing in Calgary..." speaks to this ongoing need.
