Teach's Voyage

Tax deductible
Want to join me in making a difference? I am John “Teach” Wuestman and a future competitor in the 2022 Hoka Hey Challenge™. As a competitor we are encouraged to raise funds for the fundraiser of our choosing, and I have chosen to raise money to benefit the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association® 15-4, and any donation will go directly to 15-4 to help make an impact in their area. Upon closing of the fundraiser, half of the money will go to the CVMA® Auxiliary Scholarship Fund. Last year, the Auxiliary awarded $50,000 worth of Scholarships. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

The Hoka Hey Challenge™ is a test of an individual’s endurance and fortitude against the elements, roads, and technology.  Unable to use GPS, I will have to traverse the United States for 10,000 or more miles using mostly “back” roads in 14 days or less.  The event is not a race, but rather a “finisher” only event.  In past years, less than a third of it’s starters have completed the challenge.  With nature as my “hotel”, I will be traveling through some of the most remote places in the United States unaware of my route until I reach each individual checkpoint. We are also competing with each other in fundraising and only have a window to raise funds from 1 January to October.

My goal in the challenge is to raise funds and awareness for many of the problems that plague the veteran community such as homelessness and suicide (See links below).  A combat veteran myself, I had once been hindered in life by those same obstacles among many others.  Our Chapter, 15-4, have held events annually to raise funds to be used and disseminated to help veterans in Eastern North Carolina.  From purchasing essential clothing and food items for the homeless, to donating to a VFW to assist with Hurricane damage, to donating to Veteran Community Children’s Baseball Field; we do our best to ensure the money goes where it is needed most.
