Dear friends,
The world suffered an unbelievable loss this week, with the sudden passing of Peter Brostrom. He leaves behind a huge hole, most tragically in the lives of his wife MaryClaire and two daughters Teaghan (16) and Piper (14). Peter was a gentle, passionate, hard-working soul. He had a strong sense of right and wrong - and contributed in so many ways to making the world more just. He was an avid reader and was curious about everything. He was amazingly generous and patient — when the rest of us would turn away, he kept giving. He loved rowing, which he started at UC Davis and continued at the River City Boat Club in Sacramento. He was a dedicated water resource scientist, spending most of his career tackling California’s environmental challenges. He loved Echo Lake and the Desolation Wilderness. And he loved Africa where he spent many years, including growing up in Ethiopia and Ghana and as a Peace Corps volunteer in Burkina Faso. Above all, he loved his family — he was so proud of his girls and happy in the life he and MaryClaire had created. We are all incredibly heartbroken and unbelieving.
