Team Antigua Island Girls...Back on the Row Again

 

 

 

 

BACKGROUND

On January 28, 2019, Team Antigua Island Girls made history as the first all-black team to row any ocean when they crossed the Atlantic in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. Also of historical note is that Team Antigua Island Girls is an all-female, all-black team from the Caribbean with no rowing experience prior to 2018-2019 campaign. The four-member team of Christal Clashing, Elvira Bell, Kevina Francis, and Samara Emmanuel completed the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge (organized by Atlantic Campaigns) in 47 days, finishing 13th out of 28 boats. Three years on, Team Antigua Island Girls have decided to set their oars into the water again, now to conquer the Pacific Ocean. On June 12, 2023, the team will row in the Pacific Challenge organized by Atlantic Campaigns. During the Pacific challenge, teams will row 2,800 nautical miles from Monterey, California to Kauai, Hawaii. As Team Antigua Island Girls would say, "why conquer one ocean when you can conquer two?"
