Team Canada Debate

Of the hundreds of teenagers that compete at local, regional, provincial, and national debate tournaments all over our country, only 7 are chosen for Team Canada.  The team members represent a diverse socio-economic background where fundraising presents enormous difficulty. By the time a student is invited to participate on Team Canada, their family has already spent a significant amount of money enabling their child’s participation from local debates through to the national try-outs.  The vast majority of the participants in these competitions are typical kids from the public school system. The challenge of covering the expenses associated with the training and travelling to international competitions is often overwhelming and requires support from our communities.


Canada is well-known for producing some of the best debaters in the English-speaking world, many of whom are recruited to continue their studies at prestigious universities around the world. This year's the team will be competing at the 2019 World Schools Debate Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. The majority of the costs (travel, accommodations and registration fees) are assumed by the families. We are hoping to raise funds to cover the cost of the pre-Worlds training camp Toronto, ON.
