Donation protected
I am starting this go fund me for my nephew Elijah Davis. (Edited to add- all donations will be used for his copays, treatments, medication, travel expenses as they travel to Columbus OH for all his appointments.)
Elijah Davis, 15 years old, from Oak Hill, WV.
June 25 2023 - Elijah found a lump in the front of his neck, I told him it was probably just a swollen lymph node we would make an appointment to get it checked out.
June 26 - I felt the lump and it hadn't changed in size, he said it didn't hurt, I had him to swallow as I felt it and it moved with his thyroid so I decided to go ahead and get him seen.
June 27 - he saw provider, ordered labs and thyroid ultrasound.
June 28 - normal thyroid lab results.
July 6 - Thyroid US, I had a very uneasy, sick feeling as I watched them scan his neck. No clue what I'm looking at so what do I know? I know she's measuring a nodule and I see there's blood flow colors. Later that evening his report hits his portal. *TR5 nodule-FNA recommended*
July 7 - Thyroid biopsy, was very rough to watch- Elijah was passing out on us after, quick response from Dr and nurse and he was OK. (Special thanks to Dr. Petersen this day!)
July 8 through July 19 - waiting, worrying, research, anxiety, panic, crying. I researched every waking hour, I read more than I should have but I needed to know what to expect no matter the outcome of the biopsy. Everyone that knew what we were waiting on kept trying to keep me sane, told me everything would be ok, but my gut was telling me otherwise. (Everyone probably thinks I'm a crazy, overprotective mother at this point.) I talk with Elijah and ask him if he's scared or nervous, he tells me no. (Why am I the only one nervous? Maybe I am crazy or overreacting.)
July 19 - biopsy results, papillary thyroid cancer. Referred to pediatric head and neck surgeon for total thyroidectomy.
He had surgery September 5th.
We saw the endocrinologist today, 9/19/23 and his cancer is more aggressive than what they thought. They thought removing the thyroid would solve the issue, with so many lymph nodes testing positive for cancer he will need a radioiodine scan to look for more spreading that cannot be detected with a simple CT. The initial CT scan did not show any abnormal lymph nodes which we now know was false. His care will now take place in Charleston, Huntington and Columbus Ohio. Treatments will be done in Columbus at OSU with pediatric thyroid cancer specialists. Dr. Dye stated she wanted this to be started ASAP so we are now just waiting for a phone call from Columbus hospital with our first appointment.
Please help in any way you can... if you can donate or share we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you can't, please just lift us in prayer.
