Team Emery - Let’s help with medical bills!

On March 30th 2021 Emery McGraw went out on a mountain bike ride with his friends to The Ribbon Trail in Grand Junction Colorado. Little did he know he would be returning home in a different condition than he left. On the first slab he went over the handlebars off the first drop and ended up landing head first on the rock and his chest hitting his handlebars. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in hopes that they would send him home that night. Initially, he found out he had compression fractures in T2, T5 vertebrae, a burst fracture in his T4, partial burst fracture in T3 and two fractures in his sternum. On the fourth day in the hospital he was told he also fractured T7, T8 and had two fractured ribs. Thankfully, he was wearing a helmet and didn’t suffer any brain injuries. He spent a total of 5 days and 4 nights in the hospital before being sent home.

     Up to this point, he has been told he may not need surgery, but it hasn’t been taken off the table. His doctors have said time will tell if his body is able to heal itself. Since being discharged from the hospital, he must wear his fancy brace 24/7 and cannot return to work for at least 6-8 weeks. 

     Emery works as a Retail Sales Manager at the Grand Junction REI. He lives with his fiancé Kate Hampson and their two dogs Harley and Pali. He is a Colorado native. In his free time he enjoys disc golfing, mountain biking, fishing, cooking, snowboarding, snowshoeing and listening to vinyl.
