Those that know 11 year old Emily Lever love her. She is incredibly caring and has this irresistible spark. As with so many girls her age, she also knows what she wants! She is a very special young girl.
However, Emmy has for many years had a significant battle on her hands. Dravet syndrome. A hideous rare genetic dysfunction of the brain that causes significant, often life threatening seizures. It begins in infancy and at the moment is lifelong.
Last week Emmy was tragically and unfairly diagnosed with High Risk B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. It is treated through chemotherapy and possibly radiation therapy for at least the next 2 years. This treatment could have significant further implications on her health due to Dravet.
Sadly this is not all her parents Lauren, Darren and brother James (14) are dealing with. They have just commenced the renovation of their home in Highett, of which Darren is project managing and building. They have been advised that under no circumstances can they live in their family home due to the effect construction dust could have on young Emily.
We are therefore reaching out to our extraordinary community to provide financial support to Lauren & Darren to allow them to urgently fund a suitable house in which to live for the next 12+ months. This support will allow the family to ensure Emmy's ongoing treatment and recuperation is in suitable surroundings whilst their renovation is completed so that we can get Emmy home.
Lauren & Darren are the last to ask for help so it is up to all of us to show them not only how we feel and care for them but it's also an opportunity to show what true community spirit can achieve.
Ultimately our goal is to remove the material challenges the Lever's are and will be facing and allow them to focus on their own mental and emotional health and above all the physical health of Emmy.
