Team Excelsioar Atlantic Row
Spende geschützt
In 2023, Caroline Hague, Nicki Kelly and Rachel Smillie will be competing in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge as Team Excelsioar – rowing 3000 miles across the Atlantic to raise money for two fantastic charities, The DASH Charity and Thames Hospice .
The challenge will take us from San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands, Spain to Nelson’s Dockyard, English Harbour, Antigua and Barbuda. We’ll row 2 hours on 2 hours off, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for as long as it takes to get to Antigua.
On the way we’ll battle the elements, sea-sickness, dehydration and sleep deprivation to reach our goal. We’ll contend with 30ft high waves, storms, hallucinations, salt sores, blisters (on hands, bum, you name it!), the risk of capsize, sharks, and the less than glamorous toilet facilities (a bucket on deck). We’ll row in excess of 1.5 million strokes in the race and burn in excess of 6000 calories a day. There’s a reason why more people climb Everest every year than have ever rowed the Atlantic!
For a challenge on this scale, getting to the start line can be as testing as the event itself. Preparing to row across the Atlantic Ocean takes time, training and money. We need to raise around £50 for each of the 3000 miles we'll row. Any donation, however big or small, will help us reach our goal. A donation of £50 or more sponsors a mile (or miles!). You'll get a big thank you on our social media and a shout out when we reach 'your' mile in the race!
At the end of the race we'll sell all our equipment with the proceeds going to our charities, so when you support us you support their essential work too. Win win!
To follow our journey, and learn more about the challenge, the crew and our amazing charity partners, follow us on instagram @teamexcelsioar
If you're interested in hearing about our corporate sponsorship packages, or if you can offer safety equipment (including essential medical kit, life jackets, foul weather gear), food or other services we’d love to hear from you.
