Team Giffin Crush Cancer
I never realized how hard it was to write one of these. I started a typing the story I wanted to share with everyone and then deleted it, then stared at the screen for a bit, and then deleted it again. It’s never easy to ask people for things; like a ride to and from somewhere, thoughts and prayers or even money. But what is definitely not easy is watching someone who you love so much experience and go through such a terrible disease.
You would never think, in a million years that the awful illness known as cancer would ever happen so close to home. It is something you see happen on tv or in homes of those who are close to you, but not your own parent.
On September 26, 2019, my pops (dad) was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. Although this has been extremely difficult for everyone to wrap their head around, my dad has remained positive every step of the way. He is one of the strongest people I know and never complains or asks for much. The treatments have been very aggressive so far; but in true Jim fashion, he has remained positive and calm these past couple of weeks. This is a journey he will tackle each day with everyone by his side, but the journey is long with rounds of treatment and surgery ahead. I wish I could take care of his medical bills and time off of work from my own pocket but I can’t; but I told him I would do whatever I could to help him and his wife limit this burden and additional stress that has come with this disease so he can focus on his health because we need him here for a long time! Anything helps; even a thought or prayer each day that he continues to stay strong as he continues to beat this.
Dad - when you see this; we all love you more than you could ever imagine. You have been strong for so long and fought for everyone, now it is our turn to fight for you. You will beat this; and we are all here to hold you up on your weak days when you don’t feel like getting out of bed!
Thank you everyone for your support through this journey. #teamgiffin #crushcancer
