Lily was welcomed into the world on June 13, 2017 by her parents, Julie and Jeff. Born a healthy babe at 8lbs 9oz, she thrived until she was 3 months old. After several bizarre episodes of vomiting, Lily started being closely followed by her family doctor because she wasn’t gaining weight. At the end of October 2017, one of her eyes started shaking intermittently. Thankfully Lily was fortunate to have met several bright and dedicated doctors. Babies eyesight goes through many changes during their first year and many infants struggle with frequent vomitting, but her doctors suspected something wasn't quite right and they persisted with additional testing . On November 10, 2017, Lily was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Lily's tumour is located deep in her brain, behind her eyes, making it inoperable. It took two biopsy surgeries, totalling more than 20 hours, to find and remove a tiny piece of the tumour for biopsy. The formal diagnosis is an optic chiasm pilomyxoid astrocytoma. Lily started chemotherapy in the middle of December 2017 and is scheduled for weekly treatments for at least 70 weeks. She has daily struggles with severe nausea, weakness and weight gain, and has a long battle ahead.
Despite all these hurdles, Lily still smiles lots everyday, and shares joy with everyone who has the pleasure of getting to know her. She is a clever and sweet baby, she loves playing with her toys, singing and chattering to those around her.
Julie and Jeff were initially reluctant to set up a GoFundMe page but have come to realize that many people want to help Lily and and that this is just the beginning of a long journey full of unknowns. The generosity of #TeamLily has lifted Julie and Jeff and has made their journey much easier, and for this they are very thankful. This page is being started for those who want to help but who haven’t had the chance and/or who want to share Lily’s story.
Donations will be used for ongoing medical expenses that aren’t covered fully by insurance (eg - feeding pump and supplies, physical therapy, other equipment recommended by the Occupation Therapist such as tumble form feeder seat etc.), as well as long term income replacement so that Julie and Jeff can focus on Lily.
