Help Scott Thiers Fight Cancer

Our beloved Mr. T has cancer. 

How we wish there was a way to tiptoe around it, or to wish it away, or for it to not be true. 

But, it is so heartbreakingly true.

If you know Scott, if you have been fortunate enough to have been touched by his humor, his kindness, his energy, then you feel gutted right now. How? Our  Scott? Our Mr. T who is larger than life? 

If you don’t know him…has there been a teacher who changed your life? Did you have a teacher, especially in middle school when everything seems hard, who made you laugh and feel like everything was going to be ok? A teacher who taught you about history but also about being a good person and how to stand up for what is right? Who prayed with your class and played guitar and made every student secretly feel like they were the favorite?

That is who our Mr.T is for our students. 

Of course, he is a beloved icon at our school. But, he is also Scott: a much loved husband and much adored father. Scott’s love and pride for his sons (Colin, a senior in HS, and Cameron, in college) shines every time he talks about them. His sons and his wife, Patty, have been blindsided by this news. Now, they are facing a future of very serious health and also financial concerns.

Scott went in for a scan for possible kidney stones last Friday, and by today, not even a week later, he has been diagnosed with potential metastatic bladder cancer.

We have no doubt he will fight this victoriously and be back camping with his family, cheering on his New England teams, and dressing up in funny costumes at school to make the students laugh. 

But, the raw and honest truth is that he needs help to win this battle. Middle school teachers deserve to be paid in millions, but we all know that’s not the case. 

We are asking you to please consider a donation for our Scott. The road ahead is long and unknown, but we are damn sure not letting him travel it alone. Will you please help us walk with him on this journey?

We are humbly asking you to do this for Scott, the husband and father. For our Mr. T.

If you have never met him, we ask you, our hearts filled with worry but also hope: will you please donate in honor of a teacher who impacted your life? Please think of a teacher who helped shape you into the person you are, and donate it in their honor?

And, of course, we ask for prayers. Will you please pray for healing and comfort, for understanding and courage.
