FB Page Rudy needs our help.  The Capece Family moved 3 doors down from us and it was an instant match.  Their two kids were the same age as two of mine and Rudy quickly became a regular in our house.  The Capece's are GOOD humans.  A military family, caring and silly and kind, and such a bonus for our Shaker community.

When GI symptoms that wouldn't go away turned into every parent's worst nightmare, rushing to Rainbows for tests and more tests and more tests and then the call.  The worst call any parent can get.

Last week, a tumor was found on his liver and after a biopsy, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

This week Rudy is home while they meet with doctors and establish a treatment plan. Please keep Rudy, Emily, Christian, Clara, and the doctors in your prayers as they discern the best path forward.

Once treatment begins, due to COVID-19 restrictions, hospital visitation will be limited to parents only.

These are Rudy's mom, Emily's words:

"I am on a mission to save my son.

Journal entry by Emily Capece — 5 hours ago

blood tests. ultrasound. CT scan. biopsy. diagnosis.  It all happened within five days. In five days we went from having a son with gastro issues to having a son with a rare form of liver cancer. So rare, 1 in 5 million. Fibrolamellar is its short name, its long name is malignancy and terror, second (and third, fourth, fifth) opinions and risky surgery.  And yet, Christian still makes the coffee. I still clean out the cat box, water the plants, tie my shoes. We take one step, almost forgetting this new hell we have entered into, and then are reminded about the call, the scan, nausea.  We are in purgatory. The place between knowing something must be done immediately and waiting to hear who will take us. The place where every symptom Rudy exhibits is a question of what we may have missed over this past year- years?  We have honed in on our destination, and are waiting to zoom with the team tonight. Then we pack, and go. And our second week begins."

They need our help.  Right now, they do not need lasagna.  They need financial help.  They're going to be off to another city for a massive surgery, displacing the family in an unimaginable time.   Send them your love and your strength and if you can help, in any way, it would be greatly appreciated.
